Durham Young Professionals Haunted House

October 29, 6:45 PM - 11:00 PM

American Tobacco Campus (Crowe Building Lobby), 406 Blackwell Street, Durham, NC 27701

Over the past year, the Durham Young Professionals have been working with Urban Ministries of Durham, a non-profit organization located in Downtown Durham that provides shelter, food, clothing and substance abuse recovery programs to those in need. Unfortunately, with recent economic conditions, there is an increase in those that need assistance and a decrease in donations available.

DYP is pairing up with the Durham Jaycees to help run the annual Haunted House Fundraiser, where money is raised to benefit valuable charitable organizations in the Durham community such as Urban Ministries.  This volunteer opportunity will help put money in Urban Ministries’ general fund which covers everything from operational expenses to facility maintenance to stocking the Community Café and Food Pantry.

There are three ways you can help!

  • Volunteer! At least 20 DYP volunteers are needed to staff the haunted house on Thursday, October 29, from 5:45 to 11:30 p.m.  Volunteers can help in a variety of ways; as tour guides, actors in skits with or without speaking roles, or as a costumed actor scaring attendees throughout the house.  You may request roles you are comfortable with.  This is a great way to get to know some fellow DYP members while having a fun time helping the Durham community.  If you are interested in helping to staff the haunted house or would like more information, please contact Tucker Bullock, Chair of the Civic and Community Involvement Committee (919-598-7417, tbullock@scana.com).

  • Attend! If you can attend the haunted house any night between October 23-25, 2009 & October 28-31, 2009, the proceeds will still go to help a number of charitable organizations, Urban Ministries included.  To buy advance tickets and for information about discounted tickets, go to www.durhamjaycees.org/hh2009  On October 29, you can save $2 off the ticket price by bringing a donation of new or gently used towels, washcloths or twin bed sheets or blankets.

  • Sponsor! If your company is interested in sponsoring UMD’s Haunted House night, or making a charitable donation to the cause, please contact Tucker Bullock.
