Durham has been identified as the 6th most creative region in the country by Richard Florida, author of The Rise of the Creative Class.This one of the factors that sets Durham apart in the Triangle. A vibrant well-educated community with nationally acclaimed restaurants and entertainment such as live Broadway shows like Rent, Legally Blonde and The Color Purple, at the new Durham Performing Arts Center downtown.
The residents of Durham will have significant protection in a recession. It's a college town that's close to other economically vibrant college towns and is commuting distance to state government jobs . The Durham area also has six hospitals and the Research Triangle Park, the largest and most successful research park in the world. It was listed as the 3rd city in U.S. to ride out a recession in BusinessWeek.
