Public Policy

The role of the Chamber in public policy is to help ensure that local, state and federal government policies and decisions support a strong business climate, quality growth, and economic opportunity.

The Chamber is the voice of businesses throughout Durham County.  With over 80% of the Research Triangle Park (RTP) located within Durham County, RTP is fundamental to economic development, the region’s business environment, and our overall advocacy program.

Additionally, the Chamber works closely with the City of Durham and Durham County elected and administrative leaders on key local and state issues, and has solid partnerships with regional organizations and other chambers.

The Chamber has three active committees that meet monthly to discuss pending, new and current legislation and its impact on business.

  • Transportation Committee
  • State & Federal Legislative Committee
  • Local Government Committee

In addition, the Chamber provides policy updates on key pieces of legislation and brings multiple points of view to the discussion table on many issues to ensure a balanced approach to key policy issues.
