Local Government
The City of Durham and Durham County each has its own government and each is run by a city and county manager, respectively. The two entities do share planning departments, and there is one school district countywide.
The Chamber's Local Government Committee monitors issues before city and county governments and advocates Chamber positions on issues significant to the business community and economic development.
Durham Public Schools is a single district serving all of Durham County. Its 11-member elected Board sets policy and provides governance that supports the successful outcomes for 30,000+ students in the K-12 public school system.
The Local Government Committee meets the second Tuesday of every month at 8:15 a.m. at the Chamber.
