Transportation and Infrastructure
Efficient, effective, and safe transportation and mobility are integral to quality economic development and quality of life. The Chamber is working to create an improved transportation system that supports the business community while maintaining livability in Durham County and the region. With population projections indicating a continued rapid population growth in Durham and the Triangle region, transportation and infrastructure planning are critically important.
The Chamber supports an aggressive highway construction program through a toll road initiative, the construction of the East End Connector linking Treyburn Corporate Park and Interstate 40 and Highway 147, and supports a light rail line connecting downtown Durham with the region's other population and business centers.
While commutes to and from work in Durham County are, as some call it a piece of cake, with average commutes well under 20 minutes, the Chamber will continue to evaluate and support options that improve transportation and provide adequate infrastructure for the region.
The Chamber's Transportation Committee meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:15 a.m. at the Chamber, and all representatives of Chamber member businesses are welcome to attend.
